The Automatic Comic Mixer

The Automatic Comic Mixer is an artwork by the French avantgarde comic artist Samplerman aka Yvan Guillo, created for the exhibition „The revolt of the machines 2021“. Guillo created an archive of comic fragments, taken and categorized from classic comic books, that he uses in his artist process to sample fantastic comic compositions. These newly created comic pages are at the same time abstract as they are following a visuel narrative. The machine investigates if a computer program is capable of simulate the artistic process with the help of algorithms. In contrast to other computer programs that are created to be functionable for a human user, this machine is hardly operable. The machine has its on will. Much more important is the question, wether the machine is capable of creating original unique artworks or just resample the fragments in a caleidoscopic matter.
